what is memento?
in 1998, memento takes place in the middle of nowhere, following devan as they interview an almost-empty town for their college film project. as they grow familiar with the town through long walks at night, old cassettes, and diner food, they meet new people and reconnect with an old friend as they begin to remember their forgotten past.
regarding the project itself, i'm planning on telling the story visually through comics for each script or "memento" (there are 10 mementos in total). mementos 1-7 can also be listened to in podcast form on anchor. i'm also planning on sharing additional content like extra comics that show character dynamics and more interpersonal events (these characters do have a story, but they still interact with each other outside of the story). i'll post updates when i can :)
memento was created as a personal project that brought a sense of comfort to me when i was in a weird period of my life. it's a story of friendships, transitions, and belonging. it's a story of remembering yourself as you grow into something new. it's a love letter to my past and future.
i hope it brings comfort to you in the same way it brings comfort to me.

devan is quiet and reserved, having a large interest in filming, making mixtapes, and taking care of succulents. they aren’t very social, but if you’re their favorite person, they’re a lot more relaxed. a comfortable loner, all they want is to explore who they are.
bear uwera ✩ he/him ✩ 19
bear is a good-natured guy, open-minded and curious to new ideas, but sure of who he is. a lot of pressure is put on him, and the only thing he wants is someone to reassure him. his name is his own, picked from his favorite constellation, “ursa minor”.
minerva akbarova-marín ☁︎ she/her ☁︎ 25
one of the co-owners of minnie's diner, minerva is very compassionate, known for remembering all her customers' names. however, her caring nature can lead her to overthink and worry easily. she likes to stay grounded in reality, causing her to be wary of paranormal concepts like ghosts.
abel akbarova-marín ☾ xe/xem ☾ 24
the second co-owner of minnie's diner, abel is relaxed but reserved. with a tendency to space out, xe takes every situation as it comes. xe is very sure of xemself and xyr capabilities, being someone who is more likely to listen to others than to argue. despite xyr cool demeanor, xe loves a good ghost story.

scripts
these are the scripts for mementos 3-10. i provided them for those who are Deaf, or for anyone else who would prefer to read the story without the comics. the first two mementos did not have scripts, but their plots were relatively simple: devan introduces themself and starts their project, then meets bear at a gas station and reminisces about being his roommate. for those who would like to listen to memento, mementos 1-7 are available as a podcast on anchor.
